Shining the light on LASER Energy with a new project for schools
In February, one of LASER’s largest Academy Trust customers, AET, was awarded substantial grant funding through the Government’s Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme. Included in that bid were LED lighting upgrades for 15 AET schools. These 15 schools are the latest in a rolling programme that AET commenced in 2017 and delivered using our LED lighting framework.
While we are delighted with AET’s success, the timing threw up additional challenges of a 7 week timescale from grant offer to completion deadline, coinciding with the Coronavirus lockdown and the return of pupils to schools halfway through the project.
The project is progressing well and we’re exceedingly proud of both our in-house team and the contractors and suppliers who are delivering this programme through our framework. It’s also a testament to AET’s can-do attitude that they prepared in advance by ordering LED surveys with us for all their buildings well ahead of funding announcements and trust in our framework to deliver the latest projects in such challenging timescales and circumstances.
These 15 schools are the latest in a programme with AET which will see:
- Over 1,000 tonnes of CO2 savings each year
- £430k of energy bill savings each year
- 20,000 new light fittings installed in 32 schools
In all around £3 million worth of new lighting will have been installed, the vast majority of funding for which has come from either Government PSDS grant or SALIX self-funding loans.
